Steve Silver represents a variety of clients before Congress, federal agencies, and in federal and state courts in Washington, DC, Virginia, and Alaska, particularly on matters relating to federal laws and permits governing energy projects, environmental matters, and the uses of natural resources
Prior to entering private practice with the firm, Mr. Silver served four years as Legislative Director and Chief of Staff for Sen. Ted Stevens of Alaska. Today, Mr. Silver uses that experience to help firm clients solve a variety of problems in federal, state, and local arenas. These problems are as diverse as securing authorization and funding for specific projects and permit authorizations for energy, natural resource, and transportation, protecting pension benefits, and litigating contract claims.
Recent accomplishments for clients include:
- Securing funding for municipal wastewater treatment facilities
- Securing funding for highway, aviation, and maritime transportation projects
- Providing counsel to a corporation seeking to provide transportation access across a federal wildlife refuge/wilderness area to a local airport
- Providing counsel and litigation assistance to a major mining company siting a gold mine in a National Forest
- Securing passage of legislation to convey federal land to a local municipality
- Counseling an Alaska Native Corporation on major federal initiatives to allow full economic use of Native lands
- Negotiating a major environmental cleanup settlement of a pulp mill in Alaska
- Defending a claim for payment under a federal government contract with the U.S. military
- Protecting pension benefit status of a private pension fund and its members
